Importance of World Environment day

As discussed earlier in this article, World Environment day is a crucial day for all as it is meant to be a day dedicated to awareness against pollution. Popular public figures use their influence to the advantage of the Earth by endorsing efforts to protect the environment. One of the most important things that have been the focus of environmentalists and many others around the globe for years now is global warming.

Global warming is the long-term heating of the Earth that increases the average temperature of the planet over the years. Global warming is caused due to The burning of fossil fuels, which increases heat-trapping greenhouse gas levels in Earth’s atmosphere. Deforestation is also another major cause of global warming as deforestation generally decreases the ability of our planet to lose its Carbon-di-oxide which is a greenhouse gas responsible for trapping heat.

Global warming has many negative effects on our planet and our health. One of those causes includes the depletion of the ozone layer. As you might already know, the depletion of the ozone layer is damaging to human health. Negative effects include UV radiation from the sun which causes certain types of skin cancers, eye cataracts, and immune deficiency disorders.

Though the prevention and awareness of our environment is something that should be done throughout the year. The 5th of June is used as just a reminder for us regarding our duties towards Mother Earth and how we must fulfil those duties if we wish to sustain life on our planet Earth.
